  • IN 1890'S, GRAVEL WAS HAULED TO RABBIT HOLE SPRINGS TO BE WORKED. DEPOSITS WERE NOT WORKED AGAIN UNTIL AFTER 1928, AND WERE WORKED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THEN.. IN 1984, WORTH, INC. OF SAN DIEGO HAD A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF EQUIPMENT AND SOME PEOPLE ON THE SITE, BUT MINING W-AS DELAYED PENDING DEVELOPMENT OF ADDITIONAL WATER RESOURCES. -PROPERTY IS LISTED AS AN ACTIVE GOLD MINING AND MILLING OPERAT-ION FOR 1984 EMPLOYING 3 PERSONS.

Deposit THE SECOND MOST NORTHEASTERN GULCH OF THE FIVE GULCHES KNOWN TO CARRY PLACER GOLD. THE PLACERITES DISTRICT WAS FIRST WORKED IN THE EARLY 1870'S. IN 1890'S GRAVEL WAS HAULED TO RABBIT HOLE SPRING. MINING WAS PRINCIPALLY BY SMALL SCALE HAND METHODS. DEPOSITS NOT WORKED AGAIN TILL AFTER 1928. EQUIPMENT WAS INSTALLED TO WORK PLACERS ON A LARGE SCALE. DEPOSITS WERE WORKED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE. NUMEROUS PITS, CUTS, & TRENCHES CAN STILL BE SEEN IN THE AREA. ONE TRENCH (DUG 1969) IS 1000 FT LONG, 25 FT. WIDE AND MOSTLY 6 TO 10 FEET DEEP, DEEPEST PART IS 25 FEET. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
