General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit THE PERLITE BODY IS EXPOSED IN THE ENTIRE PIT AND FOR A SHORT DISTANCE ABOVE IT. THE BANDING IN THE HANGING WALL WELDED TUFF IS APPROXIMATELY CONFORMABLE IN ATTITUDE TO THE CONTACT AND TO BANDED MATERIAL IN THE UNDERLYING PERLITE. SOME BANDED BEDS AND PODS OF STONY NON-EXPANDABLE MATERIAL UP TO 3-4 INCHES THICK ARE PRESENT IN THE PERLITE. THEY ARE SPARSE IN THE LOWER PART, BUT ABUNDANT WITHIN ABOUT 40 FEET OF THE UPPER CONTACT. THE STONY MATERIAL IS CHARACTERIZED BY ABUNDANT VUGS AND SOME COATINGS OF DUSKY-YELLOW COLOR. THE PERLITE IS PARTLY FRACTURED. ONION TEXTURE IS NOT PARTICULARLY WELL-DEVELOPED; MUCH OF THE MATERIAL BREAKS INTO EQUIDIMENSIONAL FRAGMENTS, OR, LESS COMMONLY, SPLINTERY FRAGMENTS. PERLITE GRADES TO NONGLASSY RHYOLITE.
