Comments on the geologic information

  • MINE IS DEVELOPED BY ONE VERTICAL AND FOUR INCLINED SHAFTS. DUMP MATERIAL IS MOSTLY DIORITE WITH SOME IRON-STAINED QUARTZ IS FOUND ON THE DUMP OF THE DEEPEST INCLINED SHAFT. THE DIORITE COULD NOT BE OBSERVED IN PLACE BECAUSE THE AREA IS COVERED WITH ALLUVIUM, AND THE ATTITUDE OF THE QUARTZ VEIN IS NOT KNOWN. THE VEIN QUARTZ ON THE DUMP CONTAINED 700 PPM SILVER AND 1293 PPM GOLD (WILLDEN AND SPEED, P 67).

Subject category Comment text
Deposit QUARTZ-CALCITE VEINS IN SHEAR ZONE IN DIORITE. IN OUTCROP VEIN IS ABOUT 3 FT THICK, BRECCIATED AND CEMENTED WITH H-EMATITE AND MN OXIDES. SMALL QUARTZ VEINS LACE DIORITE NEAR TH-E MAIN VEINS. THERE APPEAR TO BE AT LEAST 2 PARALLEL VEINS, ON-E PASSING THROUGH THE FALLON EAGLE SHAFT, WHICH STRIKES N40W,D-IPS 20 SW, AND A PARALLEL VEIN ABOUT 200 FT TO THE WEST STRIKI-NG N40W, DIP 55 SW. THE VEINS ARE 2-3 FT THICK AND APPEAR TO B-E LESS BRECCIATED TO THE SE OF THE MAIN SHAFTS. THE DIORITE WA-LLROCK IS LIGHT TO DARK GREEN DUE TO THE PRESENCE OF CHLORITE -(REPLACING ORIGINAL BIOTITE). FRACTURE SURFACES IN THE DIORITE- ARE COATED WITH EPIDOTE. VEINS ARE CONTAINED WITHIN THE DIORI-TE, BUT THE SURROUNDING HILLS ARE CAPPED BY LATER TUFFS AND BA-SALTS.
