Controls for ore emplacement

  • N 70 W Fault In Volcanics; Uranium Probably Leached From Rhyolite Tuffs, Redeposited In Fracture Zones

Comments on the geologic information

  • ASH FLOW AND ASH FALL TUFFS ARE PRESERVED IN DOWN-FAULTED AREAS WHICH HAVE HAD FURTHER VOLCANISM; ANDESITE PARTIALLY BURIES RHYOLITE TO THE NORTHWEST. AREA HAS APPEARANCE OF CALDERA MINUS CENTRAL UPLIFT. FINE, CRYSTALLINE, RED, SILICIFIED RHYOLITE, ARGILLIZED AND BROKEN BY FAULTING. UNALTERED RHYOLITE SHOWS SOME GREEN FERROUS OXIDE COLORATION. A WEDGE OF AULD LANG SYNE SEDIMENTS ABUTS AGAINST THE FAULT ON THE SOUTH AND IS SURROUNDED BY INTRUSIVE RHYOLITE. DEPOSIT IS ASSOCIATED WITH AN INTRUSIVE RHYOLITE DIKE IN OR NEAR THE EDGE OF THE CALDERA. URANIUM OCCURS IN FORM OF SECONDARY MINERALS IN NW TRENDING SHEETED ZONES IN RHYOLITE ASH FLOW TUFF OF HARTFORD HILL RHOLITE AND TUFFACEOUS SANDSTONE AND CONGLOMERATE OF THE CHLOROPAGUS FORMATION.

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Comments on the workings information

  • 40-FOOT DOZER CUT ON FACE OF CLIFF ON RED MOUNTAIN AND 4-F00T ADIT 250 FEET SOUTH OF CUT; PROSPECT PITS; SEALED ADIT. A SHORT ADIT TO THE EAST IS ABOVE MAIN ORE AREA AND ABOUT 200-300 FEET HIGHER. UPPER ADIT HAD ONLY 400-500 CPS (10XBG).

Comments on development

  • AREA PROSPECTED IN EARLY 1950S, BY DOZER TRENCHING, ONE ADIT 200 FEET LONG. RECENT (1978) DOZER WORK AND SHALLOW 4-FOOT HOLE (ADIT) INDICATE CONTINUED INTEREST IN THE PROSPECT.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit YELLOW URANIUM MINERALS IN BRECCIA FRAGMENTS, BUT BRECCIA ZONE IS NOT FULLY MINERALIZED. ZONE MAY BE BETTER AT DEPTH. URANIUM MINERALIZATION IS FAULT-CONTROLLED. CURRENT ORE EXPOSED IS JUST BELOW OLD LAKE LAHONTAN LEVEL, WHICH MAY HAVE PRODUCED SOME CONCENTRATION JUST BELOW WATER LEVEL.
Deposit THIS RECORD HAS BEEN MERGED WITH RECORD M242695, WHICH HAS BEEN DELETED.
