| Deposit | SILVER DISCOVERED IN LEWIS CANYON IN 1867 BY J. GREEN AND E.J. GEORGE. SEVERAL STAMP MILLS WERE BUILT IN 1876 TO TREAT THE ORE FROM THE EAGLE AND START GROVE MINES. A 40-STAMP MILL WAS BUILT IN 1880 AND THE NARROW-GUAGE "BATTLE MOUNTAIN AND LEWIS RAILWAY WAS BUILT FROM LEWIS JCTN. IN REESE RIV. VALLEY, TO LEWIS AND LATER TO STARRGROVE MINE.
