    Length 1524M

Controls for ore emplacement

  • Favorable Bed Capped By Impermeable Layer And Near Intrusive Body.

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE IRON ORE OCCURS AS IRREGULAR MASSES AND BANDS REPLACING DOLOMITE BEDS IN THE OSOBB FORMATION. THE OREBODIES APPEAR TO BE LOCALIZED ALONG MINERALIZED FAULTS AND SHEAR ZONES THAT INTERSECT NEARBY INTRUSIVE BODIES OF DIORITE. MAGNETITE OUTCROPS CAN BE TRACED FOR 5,000, HOWEVER TRENCHING PROVED THE ORE BODIES TO BE DISCONTINOUS. THE DRILLING OUTLINED A SMALL TABULAR OREBODY WHICH FEATHERS OUT IN BOTH GRADE AND THICKNESS AT THE EDGES (KRAL, 1947).

Deposit A TOTAL OF ABOUT 40,000 LONGS TONS OF ORE AVERAGING 60% FE HAS BEEN OPEN PIT MINED FROM THREE OREBODIES WHICH STRIKE E-W AND DIP. 10-20 SOUTH. FOLLOWING A MAGNETOMETER SURVEY ON THE MCCOY DEPOSIT THE USBM CARRIED OUT A TRENCHING AND DRILLING PROGRAM IN 1944. THEY DRILLED TWO HOLES TO A TOTAL DEPTH OF 92 FEET.
