Deposit WORKINGS ARE IN AND ALONG SHEARS IN DARK SLATE WHICH IS BADLY BROKEN AND IS CLOSE TO THE CONTACT WITH GRANITIC INTRUSIVES. MINERALIZATION INCLUDES ARGENOPYRITE AND POSSIBLE PB/AG MINERALS. THE WORKINGS AT THIS MINE ARE THE MOST EXTENSIVE IN THE DISTRICT BUT ARE OLD AND BADLY CAVED.; MODEL NAME COULD ALSO BE: POLYMETALLIC VEINS.
Deposit THE DISTRICT WAS FIRST DISCOVERED BY A MAN NAMED VERRY, AND IT WAS ORGANIZED AS THE COLUMBIA DISTRICT IN 1875. THE FIRST ORES WERE WORKED IN AN ARRASTRA, AND IN THE LATE 1870'S, 2 STAMP MILLS WERE ERECTED TO TREAT ORE FROM THE BADGER AND INDEPENDENCE MINES; EACH MILL HAD 5 STAMPS AND AN AMALGAMATION PAN. A SMALL TONNAGE OF ORE WAS TREATED BEFORE THE DISTRICT DECLINED. GOLD WAS DISCOVERED HERE IN THE WESTERN PART OF THE DISTRICT BY CLYDE GARRETT IN 1914. THE CLAIMS WERE ACQUIRED BY COLUMBIA MINES CO., INC IN 1937 AND THEY PRODUCED SEVERAL HUNDRED TONS OF SHIPPING ORE PER MONTH UP TO MID-1937. THEIR GROUP OF SIX UNPATENTED CLAIMS IS DEVELOPED BY A 100-FT. VERTICAL SHAFT. A 200-FT. ADIT, AND OTHER WORKINGS TOTALLING ABOUT 1000 FT. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
