General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit WORKINGS ARE ON VERY LARGE N-S VEIN SYSTEMS THAT CAN BE TRACED FOR 400-500 FT UP THE RIDGE. VEINS ARE IN A DARK GREY SHALEY MEMBER OF THE RASBERRY FORMATION. THE MAIN ADIT IN THE CENTER OF CAMP IS CAVED AND THE ONE REMAINING SURFACE STRUCTURE IS BARELY STANDING. EXTENSIVE DUMPS DO NOT CONTAIN VISIBLE MINERALIZATION AND VERY PURE QUARTZ. THE VEINS WERE PROBABLY IN SHEARS, AS SLICKENSIDES ARE COMMON, AND MUCH OF THE ORE MUST HAVE BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH GOUGE. SAMPLE 2382 WAS SELECTED FROM DUMPS.
Deposit GOLD WAS DISCOVERED HERE IN 1922 BY J. CASTACAO, A SHEEPHERDER. ABOUT 800 TONS ORE WERE TREATED IN A MILL ON THE PROPERTY AND SEVERAL CARLOADS OF ORE WERE SHIPPED TO SMELTERS, BY THE BASQUE MINING AND MILLING CO., ORGIZED IN 1927 AND OWNING 12 UNPATENTED CLAIMS PLUS 1 1/2 SECTIONS PATENTED LAND. IN 1930, THE COMPANY BUILT A 25 TPD AMALGAMATION CONCENTRATION MILL WHICH OPERATED INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL 1934. DEVELOPMENT AS OF 1937 CONSISTED OF 6 ADITS AND OTHER WORKINGS TOTALLING ABOUT 5,000 FEET ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
