Deposit PLACER GOLD WAS DISCOVERED IN 1931 BY RUFUS STEVENS. IN 1932 THE OREGON-NEVADA MINING CO. ACQUIRED 300 ACRES AND ATTEMPTED AN UNSUCCESSFUL VENTURE TO WORK GRAVELS ON LARGE SCALE. SUBSEQUENT WORK IN 1930'S WAS BY INDIVIDUALS LEASING THE GROUND TO WORK. BEST VALUES ARE AT SHALLOW DEPTH ABOVE A FALSE CLAY BEDROCK AT DEPTHS OF 8 INCHES TO 2 FEET.
