  • THE SHALLOW PROSPECTS TO SOUTH ARE SILTY SHALES & SHALEY LS. WITH NO OBS. MINERALIZATION. MOST OF FLOAT RK. AROUND SOUTHERN PROSPECTS LOOK LIKE BLK. SHALES OF THE MISS. CHAINMAN FM. ONE SAMPLE (947B) COLLECTED FROM A SHALLOW TRENCH IN HIGHLY ALTERED RK. THE RKS. CONSIST OF ALT. & BRECIATED SHALES, SILTSTONE & LS. THE LS, WHERE OBSERVED IS GREY & SILIC. FEOX, ARE ABUNDANT IN ALL RK TYPES. SAMPLE (948) FROM DUMP BY OPEN SHAFT CONTAINS FOSSILIFEROUS GREY, XTALLINE LS (JOANNA?) & RK. GRAGS. OF BANDED CALCITE VEIN AND TOOTHSPAR. SOME OF THE CALCITE IS GREY IN COLOR, BUT MOST OF IT IS WHITE. THE LS. DOES NOT APPEAR ALTERED OR MINERALIZED BUT GOSSAN IS COMMON ON THE DUMPS. AS IS FE-STAINED OF THE SHALES & SILTSTONES. CALCITE VEIN CUTS SOME OF THE LS. RK. FRAG. THE RKS. AT THE LOCALITIES MAY HAVE BEEN ALTERED BY NEARBY DIKE (?) (NOT SEEN) OR SHEARING? VOLC. LITHS FOUND ON THE DUMP & AS FLOAT IN THE ALLUVIUM.
