Comments on the workings information

  • SCATTERED CUTS AND A SHALLOW SHAFT WITH CONNECTED SHORT ADIT ABOUT 0.25 MILE NORTH OF BLUE NOSE PEAK; SCATTERED PITS

Comments on development

  • ORIGINAL CLAIMS WERE IN AN AREA N AND W OF BLUE NOSE PEAK AND IN 1980 THE GROUND APPARENTLY WAS INCLUDED IN THE CLOVER GROUP OF MORE THAN 60 CLAIMS EXTENDING FROM ONE MINE NW OF THE PEAK TO 1.5 MILES S OF IT. THE ORIGINAL LOCATORS, LATER JOINED BY O.C. MUDD AND D.E. COTNER DEVELOPED THE PROPERTY BETWEEN 1955 AND 1962. A SMALL RETORT WAS ERECTED NEAR THE SHAFT AND IN 1955 AT LEAST ONE FLASK OF HG WAS PRODUCED. IN 1957, THE CRYSTAL MINING CORP. REPORTED THAT THEY WERE RETORTING ORE, BUT RCORDED NO PRODUCTION.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit CINNABAR OCCURS IN THE SHAFT AREA IN A FOOT-WIDE BROKEN, LOCALLY BANDED ZONE FORMED ALONG A FAULT CUTTING THE LIMESTONE. FRAGMENTS ON THE DUMP CONTAINED CRUSTS OF CINNABAR AS MUCH AS 0.125 INCH THICK, AND SELECTED PIECES WOULD PROVIDE GOOD RETORT-GRADE ORE. OTHER WORKINGS 1000 FT E OF THE SHAFT WERE DUG IN SILICIFIED IRON-STAINED LIMESTONE. HERE AZURITE AND MALACHITE OCCUR WITH BARITE VEINS, AND A SMALL AMOUNT OF CINNABAR WAS FOUND BY PANNING THE DUMP MATERIAL. CINNABAR-BEARING STRINGERS IN THE LIMESTONE PINCH OUT AT DEPTH; IN THE CAPPING CINNABAR IS PRESENT AS DISSEMINATIONS AND CRYSTAL CLUSTERS. WORKINGS EXPLORE PODS OF RECRYSTALLIZED LIMESTONE IN LIMESTONE ALONG FRACTURES TRENDING N50E. CLOTS OF GALENA, TETRAHEDRITE OCCUR IN PODS ALONG WITH GREEN AND YELLOW-GREEN COPPER AND LEAD OXIDE MINERALS. VEINS AND BRECCIA FILLINGS OF CALCITE BARITE, FLUORITE OCCUR. SOME FLUORITE CRYSTALS FILL VUGS IN BARITE-CEMENTED BRECCIA AT SAMPLE 578 SITE. STRUCTURE IS NOT CLEARLY DEFINED. IN THE SAMPLE,
Deposit THE ROCK MATRIX IS MAINLY PALE GREEN TO COLORLESS FLUORITE.
