Deposit IN 1921, A CANADIAN COMPANY SANK AN INCLINED SHAFT ON THE VEIN TO THE 500 FT. LEVEL. IN NOV. 1980, VETA GRANDE CO., INC. ANNOUNCED AN AGREEMENT TO PURCHASE MOHAWK MINES INC., AND TO EXPAND THE MINE'S CURRENT CAPACITY OF 100 TONS PER DAY TO 300 T.P.D. WITHIN THE NEXT 18 MONTHS. E.J. SHIRLEY, DISCOVERER OF THE MINE, ACQUIRED 3 PARTNERS, HIS BROTHER LOUIS, HARVEY HUMPHREY, AND STANLEY CHIATOVICH. IN 1951, THE PROPERTY WAS OPTIONED TO E.R. HINES ASSIGNED IT TO HIS PRINCIPAL, AVERY BRUNDAGE, WHO FORMED "BRUHI" (BRUNDAGE-HINES) ENTERPRISES. IN MAY 1953, BRUNDAGE OPTIONED THE MOHAWK PROPERTY TO SUNSHINE MINING CO., WHO ABANDONED THE OPTION WITHIN THE YEAR. IN 1954, BRUNDAGE DECIDED TO DEVELOP THE MINE AND RECONSTRUCT THE MILL AT SILVER PEAK. MILL WAS COMPLETED IN 1955 AND TREATED MOHAWK ORE UNTIL 1956 WHEN MINE & MILL SHUT DOWN. IN 1956, U.S. MINING AND MILLING CORP. BOUGHT THE BRUNDAGE MILL IN SILVER PEAK TO TREAT NIVLOC ORE. IN 1958, IT WAS TREATING 75 TPD FROM THE OHIO MINING CO. AT GOLD
Deposit POINT. IN 1959, U.S. MILLING CO. CONCLUDED A LEASE-PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR THE MOHAWK MINE AND MINING BEGAN IMMEDIATELY. A CAVE-IN IN OCTOBER 1959 KILLED 3 MINERS, AND THE MINE WAS TEMPORARILY CLOSED ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
Deposit STEEPLY-DIPPING, EPITHERMAL FISSURE VEINS OF MASSIVE QUARTZ, BANDED QUARTZ, WITH SOME BARITE AND CALCITE, BANDED MANGANOSIDERITE. RADIOACTIVE ORE WITH VANADIUM REPORTED FROM THIS PROPERTY.. BRECCIATION IS UBIQUITOUS
