Comments on the workings information

  • WORKINGS OF THE OASIS MINE EXTEND FOR 3500 FT ALONG THE CONTACT, BUT ARE CONCENTRATED IN SEVERAL AREAS: IN NW AREA, WHITE TALC WAS MINED UNDERGROUND IN NO. 3 AND NO. 4 WORKINGS AND SMALL OPEN PITS IN 1930'S-1940'S. IN MAIN OASIS AREA MOST OPEN PITS WERE MINED PRIOR TO 1940, AND THE MAIN SHAFT AREA WAS MINED TO 300 FT DEEP FOR "COSMETIC GRADE" TALC. CONNECTING ADIT.

Comments on development

  • BOVARD PRODUCED TALC FROM 1928-1938 FROM OPEN PITS AND UNDERGROUND WORK. SIERRA TALC AND CLAY CO. BOUGHT THE MINE IN 1938 AND OPERATED IT CONTINUOUSLY FROM 1938 TO 1966, SINCE WHICH LESSEES HAVE PRODUCED SMALL AMOUNTS FROM OPEN PITS. SIERRA TALC SHIPPED SORTED ORE TO ITS COMPANY MILL AT KEELER, CA.
