Commodity Importance
Manganese Critical Primary

Comments on the commodity information

  • ORE CONSISTS OF VERY FINE GRAINS OF BRAUNITE, PYROLUSITE AND PSILOMELANE UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT A QUARTZITE GANGUE. IN PLACES MN OXIDES HAVE PARTLY REPLACED THE QUARTZITE SO THAT THE INDIVIDUAL QUARTZ GRAINS APPEAR SMOKEY. INTIMATE ASSOCIATION OF MN OXIDES WITH SILICEOUS GANGUE GREATLY INHIBITED BENEFICIATION OF ORE.

Deposit BRAUNITE AND MN OXIDES INTIMATELY INTERGROWN WITH CHERT AND JASPER. DEPOSIT IS A REPLACEMENT OF SEDIMENTARY ROCKS. FOOTWALL IS SLATE; HANGING WALL IS SILICEOUS WITH LENSES OF JASPER AS MUCH AS 10 FT THICK. INTERBEDDED WITH THE MN OXIDES ARE THIN BEDS OF SILICIFIED SHALE AND LENSES OF JASPER RICH IN HEMATITE.
