Deposit TRENCHING BY USBM (1954) EXPOSED A MANGAINIFEROUS BODY LOCALIZED ALONG AN ALTERED BASALT-RED LIMESTONE CONTACT. MANGANESE MINERALIZATION IS ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AS AT ST. REGIS NO. 1 PLUS HAUSMANNITE. TO DETERMINE THE DOWNWARD EXTENT OF THE SURFACE EXPOSURE USBM DIAMOND DRILLED TWO BOREHOLES. THE FIRST HOLE WAS COLLARED IN THE SOUTHSIDE OF THE TRENCH ABOUT 25 FT NW OF THE OUTCROP. THE WAS DIRECTED SO AS TO INTERSECT HORIZONTAL EXTENSIONS OF THE ORE BODY 32 FT FROM THE OUTCORP. A RED LIMESTONE-BASALT CONTACT WAS INTERSECTED AND NO MANGANESE MINERALIZATION WAS FOUND IN THE 45 FT HOLE. THE SECOND HOLE WAS COLLAARED IN THE FLOOR OF THE TRENCH A T THE BASE OF THE HIGH-WALL ABOUT 31 FT SE OF THE OUTCORP. THE PROPOSED POINT OF INTERSECTON WITH VERTICAL EXTENSIONS OF THE ORE BODY WAS AT A DEPTH OF 40 FT. A RED LIMESTONE-BASALT CONTACT WAS OBSERVED IN THE CORE. NO MANGANESE MINERALIZATION WAS FOUND IN THE 66 FT HOE.
