  • A MONOZONITE INTRUDED A SERIES OF SEDIMENTARY AND VOLCANIC SEDIMENTARY ROCKS OF THE PALMAR AND POTRERO FORMATIONS (CRETACEOUS AGE). THE HOST ROCK OF THE FE-VEIN DEPOSITS IS A HYPIDIOMORPHIC GRANULAR ANDESITE COMPOSED OF 40% PLAGIOCLASE, 8% POTASSIC FELDSPAR, 10% OPAQUE MINERALS, AND STRINGERS OF QUARTZ. THE DEPOSIT IS A TABULAR DIKE THAT CUTS THE INTUSIVE BODY. THE STRUCTURE TRENDS N-S FOR 5 KM AND IS 4 M WIDE (CABRERA, 1983).
