Comments on the geologic information

  • THE THREE PRINCIPAL ROCK ASSEMBLAGES DESCRIBED BY THEOBALD (1984) ARE: (1) AN EARLY GROUP OF EXTRUSIVE FLOWS AND FLOW BRECCIAS WHICH ARE NOW CONFINED TO THE SOUTHEAST AND SOUTHWEST FLANKS OF THE DOME; (2) MASSIVE PORPHYRITIC RHYOLITE DOME; AND (3) A LATER ERUPTIVE RHYOLITIC SEQUENCE OF FLOWS WITH SOME VITROPHYRES AND FLOW BANDING.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit TWO RHYOLITIC DOMES WITH NUMEROUS PROSPECTS AND MINES. MAGALLANES IS THE LARGER OF THE TWO, COVERING APPROXIMATELY 5 KMS N-S BY 7 KMS E-W. MAGALLANES APPEARS TO BE SITUATED WITHIN AN AXIAL TROUGH OR GRABEN. THE MINERALIZATION HAS OCCURED ALONG FRACTURES CONTROLLED BY THREE 2-3 KM LONG SUBPARALLEL NORMAL FAULTS 600 M APART. ASSAY DATA SHOW THAT THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATIONS OF GOLD, FLUORITE, AND SILVER OCCUR IN BRECCIATED FAULT ZONES.
Deposit THE COMBINATION OF QUARTZ-RICH RHYOLITES, FLUORITE, MANGANESE, AND SOME MOLYBDENUM IS COMPATIBLE WITH AN OVERALL ASSOCIATION CHARACTERISTIC OF A MOLYBDENUM-PORPHYRY TYPE OF SYSTEM, ALTHOUGH AT PRESENT LEVELS OF EROSION THE DEPOSIT APPEARS TO BE AN EPITHERMAL GOLD-SILVER TYPE. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB
