  • COUNTRY ROCK: COMPLEXLY FAULTED AND FOLDED MIDDLE-LATE ORDOVICIAN TO LATE PERMIAN SEDIMENTARY SECTION AT LEAST 1600 M THICK THAT HAS BEEN INTRUDED AND PARTIALLY CONTACT METAMORPHOSED BY A 65.9 (+/- 1.4) M.Y. BIOTITE-HORNBLENDE GRANODIORITE INTRUSIVE. DEVONIAN SECTION CONSISTS OF CHERT, STRATIFORM BARITE, F.GR. VOLCANICLASTIC AND FELDSPATHIC SANDSTONE, SILTSTONE, MUDSTONE, AND DARK-GREY PELLOIDAL LIMESTONE. UNDERLYING ORDOVICIAN SECTION CONSISTS OF ORGANIC-RICH CHERT AND GRAPTOLITIC AND SILICEOUS SHALES. UPPER PALEOZOIC ROCKS ARE DOMINANTLY PARTIALLY METAMORPHOSED CARBONATES.

Deposit BEDDED BARITE EXHIBITING PRIMARY SEDIMENTARY TEXTURES. BARITE AVERAGES 40 M THICK AND OCCURS AS BEDS AND LENSES WITHIN SANDY CHERT AND MUDSTONE. DEPOSIT COVERS 4000 HA AREA (7.0 X 2.5 KM). DEPOSIT CONTAINS DEVONIAN (FAMENNIAN) BRACHIOPODS REPLACED BY BARITE. THE BARITE IS LIGHT GRAY, LAMINATED, AND FINE GRAINED. IN PLACES, IT FORMS ROSETTES OR CONGLOMERATES OR CEMENTS SANDSTONE. THE BEDS ARE UP TO 1 M THICK. THE DEPOSIT IS APPROXIMATELY 50 M THICK.
