    Thickness 8M
    Width 200M
    Depth to bottom 600M

Comments on the geologic information

  • THE MINERALIZATION IS CONCENTRATED IN THE CONTACT BETWEEN THE QUARTZ-TOURMALINE BODY AND THE TONALITE BODY. THE OLDEST ROCKS CONSIST OF PHYLLITES AND SHALES (METAMORPHOSED TUFFACEOUS ROCKS) OF PALEOZOIC AGE THAT CROP OUT 1 KM W OF THE MINE ON THE LOWER SLOPE OF THE SPUR OF THE ANDES. IN THE UPPER PART OF DEPOSIT, TO THE EAST, CROP OUT A SEQUENCE OF LLAMA VOLCANICS OF THE LOWER TERTIARY AGE. BETWEEN THE METAMORPHIC ROCKS AND THE VOLCANIC ROCKS IS A TONALITIC TO DIORITIC INTRUSIVE OF MIDDLE TO LATE CRETACEOUS AGE.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • BETWEEN OCTOBER 1988 AND SEPTEMBER 1989 THE VALUE OF 1% CU WAS $18.38 THAN THE VALUE OF THE RAW RESERVES IS US $2958.510. POSSIBILITIES TO BLOCK OUT LARGE RESERVES EXIST, PARTICULARLY IN THE REGION BETWEEN LEVEL 5 (2373 M) AND LEVEL 8 (2205 M). LEVEL 5 HAS 330 M OF MINERALIZED CONTACT AND THERE ARE 3 BLOCKS ECONOMIC MINERALIZATION. BETWEEN THE LEVELS THERE IS 168 M OF VERTICAL POTENTIAL.

Comments on development

  • AFTER MORE THAN A DECADE OF OPERATION, THE COMPANIA MINERA TURMALINA SHUT DOWN OPERATIONS IN 1983 BECAUSE THE MINE ROAD HAD DETERIORATED. LATER IN JUNE 1989, STORMS FROM EL NINO MADE THE ROAD WORSE. IN 1989, THE COMPANY REOPENED ITS OPERATIONS. PLANT CAPACITY IS 150 MT/DAY AND HAS SOME PROBLEMS.
