Development status Producer
Commodity type Metallic
Significant No
Production years WORKED INTERMITTENTLY SINCE THE 19TH CENTURY.

Comments on the production information

  • THE AMOUNT OF ORE EXTRACTED FROM THE MINE IS DIFFICULT TO SURMISE, BUT LOCAL MINERS WILL ATTEST TO THE MINES BONANZA. MINERS IN 1975 EXTRACTED $50-80 OF GOLD A DAY.

Comments on the workings information

  • IN 1975, THERE WERE 500 MINERS WORKING THE SITE. THESE WORKERS DUG HOLES, WHICH WERE WORKED BY GROUPS 8-12 MINERS. THE HOLES WERE USUALLY QUICKLY ABANDONED DUE TO THE INUNDATION OF GROUND WATER, WHICH WAS EXTRACTED, IN PART, BY FIRE ENGINES. MANY HOLES REMAIN AND ARE STILL BEING WORKED, AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN PARTIALLY COFFER DAMMED.

Comments on development

  • THE CHOCO PACIFICO MINING COMPANY COMPLETED A GEOLOGICAL STUDY OF THE AREA WITH DRILL HOLE STUDIES, THE RESULTS OF WHICH ARE UNKNOWN.
