  • THE AREA IS CHARACTERIZED BY OUTCROPS OF QUATERNARY SEDIMENTS WHICH MAKE UP THE CHAPARRAL ALLUVIAL FAN. FAN MATERIAL IS PRIMARILY RED SANDY-CLAY, SANDSTONE, AND CONGLOMERATE. THE FAN DISCORDANTLY OVERLIES TERTIARY ROCKS.

Deposit THE DEPOSIT IS A CONGLOMERATE WHICH CONSISTS OF VARYING-SIZED CLASTS (SOME UP TO 1 M IN DIAMETER) OF PREDOMINANTLY QUARTZ DIORITE AND GRANODIORITE. THE MATRIX IS PREDOMINANTLY GRAY SAND AND CONTAINS SMALL GOLD FLAKES AND OTHER HEAVY MINERALS.
Deposit BUENAVENTURA (1975) REPORTS THAT THE RICHEST ZONES OF THE PLACER HAVE BEEN INTENSELY WORKED, AND ONLY POOR REMENENTS OF THE DEPOSIT REMAIN.
