OVERLYING THE PERIDOTITE,ESPECIALLY ON SURFACES OF LOW RELIEF IS A MANTLE OF DEEP REDDISH-BROWN LATERITE CONTAINING MINOR SILICA BOXWORK AND SOME VISIBLE GARNIERITE. DEPTH RANGE NOT KNOWN, BUT ON HIGH FLAT AREA ABOVE 2400 FT. CONTOUR AND ON BENCH N.E. OF GASQUET MTN., BETWEEN 1750 AND 2000 FT. CONTOURS, IS SAID TO BE OVER 100 ACRES OF LATERITE LESS THAN 5 FT. IN DEPTH.
