Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: AREA IS UNDERLAIN BY SEVERAL TYPES OF ULTRAMAFIC ROCKS, INCLUDING PERIDOTITE, DUNITE AND SAXONITE, ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN LOCALLY SERPENTINIZED. CHROMITE PROSPECTS (AND SEVERAL SMALL MINES) OCCUR IN DUNITE. DARK REDDISH-BROWN LATERITE MANTLES HIGHER PORTIONS OF RIDGE, AND COVERS ABOUT 2,500 ACRES. DEPTH OF LATERITE IS NOT KNOWN, BUT SEVERAL BULLDOZER CUTS ARE 10 FT. DEEP, AND IT IS ASSUMED THAT THE DEPTH MAY BE AS MUCH AS SEVERAL TENS OF FEET. GARNIERITE NOT FOUND.
