  • MINED BY JACOB VOORHIS IN 1911. QUARRY OPENED IN 1833. IN 1911 WAS ABOUT 500 FEET LONG NORTH-SOUTH, 200 FEET WIDE EAST-WEST, AND 50 FEET DEEP. GNEISS FOLIATION STRIKE N. 15 TO 20 DEG. EAST AND DIP VERTICAL. SHEETS ONE TO 35 FEET THICK WITH STRIKE N. 80 DEG. WEST , DIP 20 DEG SOUTH; MOST SEPARATED BY SMALL APLITE DIKES. DARK BLUISH GRAY COLOR WITH COARSE PORPHYRITIC GNEISSOSE TEXTURE. USED FOR BUILDINGS.
