| Deposit | R. HITES DISCUSSION ON THE ORIGIN OF TACHYHYDRITE EXPLAINS OCCURANCE OF EXCESS CALCIUM IN BASIN, NOT NORMALLY POSSIBLE IN ORDINARY SEAWATER EVAPORATION. EXPERIMENTALLY HE ADDED FERRIC CHLORIDE IN SATURATED BRINE. THIS PRODUCED (HCL) WITH AN ACID PH VALUE OF 1.5 IN BRINE. THIS CORROSIVE BRINE THEN WAS ABLE TO ATTACK LIMESTONE (CACO3) IN THE BASIN THUS PROVIDING THE NEEDED CALCIUM FOR TACHYHYDRITE FORMATION. |
