Deposit BARBOSA VISITED AREA OF RIO DE CONTAS IN 1940 WHERE PRIMITIVE PLACER OPERATIONS UNDER WAY EXTRACTION OF CASSITERITE(HE REPORTS THIS THE ONLY LOCALITY WHERE SN BEING PRODUCED IN REGION). HE DID NOT FIND SOURCE ROCK OF CASSITERITE BUT SUGGESTS IT MIGHT BE "METAMORPHOSED QUARTZ-PORPHYRY ERUPTIVES" CUTTING PRECAMBRIAN ITACOLOMY QUARTZITE. THIS ON BASIS OF MINERS ASSERTIONS THAT TOPAZ FOUND IN PLACERS IS SATELLITE MINERAL TO CASSITERITE. BARBOSA FOUND TOPAZ IN QUARTZ VEINS CUTTING THE QUARTZ-PORPHYRY.
