Deposit DISTRICT IS IN UPPER PORTION OF AMAPARI AND VILLA NOVA RIVER VALLEYS IN SOUTH CENTRAL AMAPA. CASSITERITE AND TANTALITE-COLUMBITE DERIVED FROM PEGMATITES AND GOLD FROM QUARTZ VEINS IN PRECAMBRIAN METASEDIMENTS. ORIGIN OF DIAMONDS NOT KNOWN. PLACERS OF REGION CONTAIN ONLY SMALL RESERVES NO MORE THAN 16 METRIC TONS CASSITERITE AND MUCH SMALLER RESERVES TANTALITE-COLUMBITE. SMALL PRODUCTION OF THESE IN 1940S. SPORADIC PRODUCTION GOLD AND DIAMONDS BY PIMITIVE PLACER MINING. IN 1972 CPRM CONDUCTED RECONNAISSANCE MINERAL SURVEY OF 70,000 SQUARE KILOMETERS OF THIS REGION AND THE CALCOENE RIVER REGION TO THE NORTH. REPORT NOT YET AVAILABLE(JAN.,1973).
