  • Ore Concentrated At Base Of Ultramafics.

Comments on the geologic information

  • A SERIES OF ULTRAMAFIC INTRUSIONS CUT ARCHEAN ROCKS IN THIS AREA. THEY SEEM TO HAVE THE FORM OF SILLS, AND TO BE FLOW DIFFERENTIATED. ORES ARE CONCENTRATED AT THEIR BASAL CONTACTS. THESE MAGMAS HAVE KOMATIITE AFFINITIES, BUT THEIR UNUSUALLY HIGH NI/CU RATIOS SUGGEST THAT THEY ARE LESS PRIMITIVE THAN MAGMS IN THE AUSTRALIAN DEPOSITS.

Subject category Comment text
Deposit THE ENTIRE DEPOSIT IS UNDER SHEBANDOWAN LAKE (140-150 FT. DEPTH). IT CONSISTS OF NARROW LENSES. CORNWALL, 1966, INDICATES A SULFIDE DEPOSIT WITH 10,000-50,000 TONS OF CONTAINED NICKEL LOCATED ABOUT 60 MILES WEST OF THUNDER BAY. FINAL INVESTMENT WILL BE $50 MILLION FOR PLANT AND MINE. AS OF 11-87, THIS RECORD CONTAINS DATA FROM M046198 WHICH HAS BEEN DELETED FROM THE DATA BASE.
