Deposit GROSS (1984) LISTS DEPOSITS IN THE CAYUNA AND MESABI RANGES, MN, AND MARQUETTE RANGE, MI, AS EXAMPLES OF THE ENRICHED IRON FORMATION DEPOSIT MODEL. THESE DEPOSITS OCCUR AS RESIDUAL IRON OXIDE MASSES FORMED BY SECONDARY ENRICHMENT PROCESSES INVOLVING OXIDATION OF THE IRON AND LEACHING OF THE SILICEOUS MINERALS THROUGH THE ACTION OF DEEPLY CIRCULATING GROUNDWATER IN FRACTURES AND MORE PERMEABLE PARTS OF IRON FORMATIONS.
