Deposit OPENED 1907 , USING ROOM AND PILLAR METHOD UNDERGROUND, SHIPPED 1907 - 1911 AND 1915 - 1920 . FORMERLY OPERATED BY NIAGARA IRON MINING CO (ROGERS - BROWN IRON CO., AGENT). REOPENED IN 1951 BY CLEVELAND-CLIFFS IRON CO., AS AN OPEN PIT. SILICEOUS ORE FROM THE UPPER PART OF THE ORE BODY WAS MINED AND CONCENTRATED. BEAUFORT, NORWOOD, PORTLAND, AND WEBSTER PROPERTIES WERE INCLUDED IN THIS PROJECT. PROPERTY IS NOW LOCATED WITHIN BARAGA STATE FOREST BOUNDARIES.
