  • DURING THE 1850'S A MAIN SHAFT, 45.7 M (150 FT) DEEP, AND SEVERAL SMALLER SHAFTS WERE SUNK. IN 1974 A CAVED SHAFT, FOUR CAVED PITS, AND A DUMP WERE SEEN.

Comments on development

  • MINE WAS OPENED IN 1849 AND WORKED BY DR. D. SKERRETT FROM 1850 TO 1854, AND THEN BECAME THE PROPERTY OF A PHILADELPHIA COMPANY. DURING THIS PERIOD A MAIN SHAFT, 45.7 M (150 FT) DEEP, AND SEVERAL SMALLER SHAFTS WERE SUNK. A 15-STAMP MILL WAS ALSO ERECTED. IN 1895 A HUNTINGTON MILL HAD BEEN ERECTED AND THE MINE WAS BEING DEVELOPED IN THE LOWER LEVELS. MINE APPARENTLY CLOSED DOWN OPERATIONS SOMETIME IN 1895. ; ECON.COM: 15-STAMP MILL ERECTED; HUNTINGTON MILL ERECTED.
