  • REPORTEDLY CONSISTED OF A SERIES OF OLD SHAFTS AND PITS EXTENDING FOR 137 M DIRECTED N 60 DEG E, WITH 2 OLD SHAFTS 18.3 M AND 10.7 M DEEP (TABER, 1913); ABOUT 5 CAVED PITS, COVERED DUMPS REPORTED 1974.

Comments on development

  • THE PLACER GRAVELS ON THIS PROPERTY ARE SAID TO HAVE BEEN WASHED DURING THE EARLY DAYS OF GOLD MINING IN THE DISTRICT (1835?). GENERAL COOK STARTED UNDERGROUND WORK IN 1846 AND ERECTED A 6-STAMP MILL WHICH YIELDED AT TIMES AS MUCH AS $200 PER DAY. IN 1848 THE PROPERTY WAS SOLD TO THE L'AIGLE D'OR COMPANY OF NEW YORK. LITTLE DEVELOPMENT WORK WAS ATTEMPTED UNTIL AFTER THE CIVIL WAR, WHEN THE MINE WAS REOPENED BY SEVERAL SMALL SHAFTS. IN 1910 ALL OF THE OPENINGS WERE INACCESSIBLE. (THE L'AIGLE D'OR COMPANY MAY HAVE BEEN THE L'LAIGLE D'OR COMPANY.)
