  • A 12.2 M TUNNEL HAS BEEN DRIVEN INTO A STEEP INCLINE THROUGH SCHIST AND INTO MARBLE. THE ORE WAS FLOATED DOWN WRECK ISLAND CREEK TO A SMELTER NEAR THE JAMES RIVER (FURCRON, 1935). THE TUNNEL OPENING WAS SEEN IN 1974.
