  • GOSSAN MINED IN 1820 FOR IRON ORE FOR THE LITTLE RIVER FURNACE OPERATED BY COL. LEWIS. THIS OPERATION WAS SHORTLIVED DUE TO COPPER CONTAMINATION OF THE IRON. THE MINE WAS DEVELOPED IN 1854 FOR EXTRACTION OF COPPER ORE.
