MET T/YR ; ECON.YEAR: 1981 ; ECON.COM: ESTIMATED LIFESPAN OF 34 YEARS, DURING WHICH MINE WILL PRODUCE ABOUT 725 TONS OF GOLD, SLIGHTLY LESS THAN SOUTH AFRICA'S TOTAL GOLD PRODUCTION IN ONE YEAR. AT PRESENT, ONLY VCR REEF BEING MINED. AT GREATER DEPTHS ARE THE KIMBERLY, MAIN, CARBON LEADER AND NORTH LEADER REEFS. IF THE GOLD AND URANIUM CONTENT OF THESE PROVES TO BE ECONOMIC, THEN THE MINE WILL HAVE A LONGER LIFE THAN THE 34 YEARS AT PRESENT ENVISAGED. PRESENT OPERATING COSTS ARE HIGHER THAN THE AVERAGE FOR ALL SOUTH AFRICAN GOLD MINES OVER THE PERIOD VIZ. $42.70 PER TON MILLED AND $247.25/T OZ GOLD PRODUCED.
