Comments on development

  • MAGNETIC ANOMALY ON WOOD TRACT WAS FIRST NOTED IN 1953 BY MEANS OF AN AERIAL MAGNETOMETER SURVEY. IN 1956, SEVERAL HAND AUGER AND POWER AUGER HOLES WERE SUNK. U.S. BUREAU OF MINES BEGAN STUDY OF RESOURCES BY MEANS OF A MAGNETIC SURVEY AND AN EXPLORATORY DRILLING PROGRAM; THROUGH THIS STUDY, THE B.F. CAMDEN ANOMALY WAS DELINEATED. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. BEGAN PROSPECTING THE WOOD TRACT IN 1958 AND BEGAN MINING THE ORE THE SAME YEAR. PROCESSING OF THE ORE WAS DELAYED UNTIL MARCH, 1959. MINING OF CAMDEN TRACT BEGAN IN 1967, MOVING OUT OF WOOD TRACT AROUND 1969. OPERATIONS CEASED IN 1971. ; ECON.COM: MILL LOCATED IN PINEY RIVER.
