  • OLD WORKINGS CONSIST OF PITS, TRENCHES, AND ONE VERTICAL SHAFT. IN 1959, THE SHAFT WAS BADLY CAVED AND FILLED WITH RUBBISH.

  • VIRGINIA MINING AND MANUFACTURING CO. ACQUIRED MINERAL RIGHTS IN 1889 FOR THE PURPOSE OF MINING FOR PHOSPHATE. SEVERAL PITS AND TRENCHES WERE DUG AND ONE SHAFT WAS SUNK. DESPITE LARGE AMOUNT OF DEVELOPMENT WORK, COMPANY FAILED SHORTLY. NO COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS WERE CONDUCTED.
