  • DEPOSIT WAS PROBABLY FIRST PROSPECTED BY VIRGINIA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. AROUND 1889 DURING PROSPECTING FOR PHOSPHATE DEPOSITS. VA. MNG & MFG. CO. SOON FAILED. C.K. LEETH OBTAINED MINERAL RIGHTS IN 1933, LATER TRANSFERRING THEM TO BURGESS TITANIUM CO. THE MINERAL RIGHTS WERE HELD BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS CO. IN 1960. AX-SIZE DIAMOND-DRILL HOLES WERE SUNK, HOWEVER FISH AND SWANSON (1964) DO NOT DELINEATE DRILLER.
