Comments on the geologic information

  • EDMUNDSON (1938) DESCRIBES THE PROSPECT TO BE IN ATHENS SHALE. MORE RECENT WORK INDICATES THE DEPOSIT OCCURS IN LIMESTONE AND DOLOMITE OF THE LINCOLNSHIRE FORMATION AND THE SURROUNDING SHALE (ATHENS) IS PART OF THE EDINBURG FORMATION. THE CONTACT BETWEEN THESE TWO FORMATIONS IS VERY CLOSE TO THE DEPOSIT. FOR A GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE AREA SEE MCGUIRE, O.S., 1976, GEOLOGY OF THE DALEVILLE QUADRANGLE, VIRGINIA: VIRGINIA DIVISION OF MINERAL RESOURCES REPORT OF INVESTIGATIONS 42.

Comments on development

  • PROSPECT WAS WORKED BEFORE 1938 AND THE WORKINGS CONSIST OF 8-12 OPEN PITS AND TRENCHES. THE WORKINGS WERE HAND DUG AND THEY STRIKE N 50 DEG E FOR ABOUT 91.5 M (300 FT).
