  • THE MINE WAS OPENED BEFORE 1937, PROBABLY BEFORE 1900. IT CONSISTED OF AN OPEN CUT 61 M (200 FT) LONG AND 9.1 M (30 FT) WIDE. SOME PROSPECTING OCCURRED IN 1937. ABOUT 2500 TONS OF EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH-GRADE BARITE WAS RECOVERED FROM THIS MINE.

Deposit BARITE OCCURRED IN BLACK CLAY DERIVED FROM MARBLE OF THE MOUNT ATHOS FORMATION. NO BEDROCK WAS SEEN IN THE OPEN CUT, BUT JUST SOUTHWEST OF THE MINE MICA SCHIST OCCURS ALONG STRIKE.
