Comments on the workings information

  • PRIOR TO 1940, THE VEIN WAS DEVELOPED WITH AN 850 FOOT OPEN CUT, AND TWO SHAFTS, 80 AND 260 FEET DEEP. IN 1940, THE KENTUCKY LEAD MINE CO. SUNK A CONCRETE WALLED SHAFT TO A DEPTH OF 86 FEET. AT THE DEPTH OF 45 FEET ONE 7 FOOT DRIFT WAS SENT ALONG THE VEIN TO THE NORTH 22 FEET AND ANOTHER TO THE SOUTH 18 FEET. SINCE THAT TIME THE SHAFT HAS BEEN DEEPENED AND THE DRIFTS EXTENDED. IN 1940 AN EXTENSIVE MILL WAS COMPLETED, CAPABLE OF SEPARATING 200 TONS OF VEIN MINERALS PER DAY.
