  • SPHALERITE MOSTLY IN A SLIGHTLY BRECCIATED DARK GRAY DOLOMITE ASSOCIATED WITH CALCITE. THIS IS A UNIQUE SITE AS IT IS THE FIRST ONE DESCRIBED AS HAVING LARGE 'VEINS' OF SPHALERITE.

  • FIVE DRIFTS RUN FROM THE SHAFT; N, NE, S, E, & W. NE DRIFT WAS THE RKHEST. ORE FOUND IN ALL DRIFTS. NE SHAFT IS AT 135 FOOT-LEVEL. ORE BEARING ZONE IS FROM THE 70-FOOT LEVEL TO THE 135-FOOT LEVEL. A CAVED IN 40 FOOT TUNNEL RUNS EAST INTO THE HILL AT THE TOP OF THE SHAFT. SHAFT 2 IS 35-40 FEET DEEP, STARTING AT AN ALTITUDE 40 FEET BELOW THAT OF SHAFT 1. SPHALERITE IN VEINS AND DISSEMINATED WAS FOUND ONLY IN THE UPPER 10 FEET OF IT. SHAFT ONE OPENS UPON THE BOTTOM OF A GULCH.

Deposit ST. JOE FM. IS 30 FEET ABOVE THE MOUTH OF THE MAIN SHAFT. THE CHERT HAS SOLUTION CAVITIES LEFT BY SPHALERITE CRYSTALS. ORE DISPOSED TO RUN IN VERTICAL STREAKS UP TO TWENTY INCHES WIDE.
Deposit SHAFT AND ORE BINS WERE LOCKED AS THE SUPERINTENDENT WAS AWAY. MOST INFORMATION WAS GATHERED FROM PERSONS FAMILIAR WITH THE WORKINGS. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
