  • SAND AND SLIME IS TAKEN FROM VARIOUS DUMPS AND DAMS ON THE EAST RAND TO THE S.A. LAND AND EXPLORATION COMPANY LTD'D (SALLIES) GOLD PLANT AT BRAKPAN. ROCK FROM DUMPS OWNED BY HIPPO QUARRIES LTD., ANGLO ALPHA LTD.'S STONE DIVISION, IS ALSO DELIVERED TO THE PLANT. ROCK, SLIMES AND SAND ARE BLENDED TO ENSURE EFFICIENT PLANT OPERATION. IN ADDITION, A NEW PLANT WAS OPENED BY EGOLI IN OCTOBER, 1981 ON THE WEST RAND FOR THE TREATMENT OF DUMP MATERIAL FROM ITS OWN HOLDINGS AS WELL AS THE TREATMENT OF CERTAIN LOW GRADE SURFACE RESIDUES FROM RANDFONTEIN ESTATES GOLD MINE. AT PRESENT, THIS PLANT IS PROCESSING ORE AT THE RATE OF 40,000 TONS/MONTH.

Deposit DURING THE PAST YEAR, GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS WERE UNDERTAKEN TO ESTABLISH THE VIABILITY POTENTIAL OF THE KIMBERLEY REEF ON THE AREAS UNDERLYING THE OLD SPRING MINE. IN THIS REGARD, AN APPLICATION FOR THE GRANTING OF 7,196 PRECIOUS METALS CLAIMS HAS BEEN LODGED WITH THE GOVERNMENT MINING ENGINEER. IN ADDITION, AN INVESTIGATION WAS UNDERTAKEN TO DETERMINE THE PROFITABILITY OF MINING ORE FROM THE BLACK REEF ON A TRIBUTE BASIS. A DECISION IN THIS RESPECT HAS NOT YET BEEN FINALISED.
