  • IN 1882 TWO SHAFTS WERE SUNK. ONE SHAFT WAS 75' DEEP AND FOUND AN ORE BODY 25' WIDE. 200' SOUTH OF THIS SHAFT A LARGE PIT WAS DUG ABOUT 60' WIDE. EAST OF THE PIT A SHAFT WAS DUG TO 60'. 2000 TONS OF ORE WAS MINED. AFTER 1882 SHAFTS WERE ENLARGED TO 100' AND 15,000 TONS OF ORE WERE MINED. IN 1889 TWO NEW SHAFTS AND AN INCLINE WERE PUT DOWN TO 155'. BY 1892 IT WAS PRODUCING 1800 TONS MONTHLY. IN 1891 TWO LOG WASHERS, DRIVEN BY STEAM POWER, WASHED 60 TONS OF ORE A DAY. THE ORE WAS SHIPPED BY THE LEHIGH AND HUDSON RR TO FURNACES IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA. TWO SIXTY HORSE-POWER BOILERS DROVE TWO HOISTING ENGINES AND TWO STEAM PUMPS IN ORDER TO DRAIN THE MINE OF WATER. 75 MEN WERE EMPLOYED AT THE MINE IN 1891. 3 SHAFTS ARE EVIDENT TODAY ALONG WITH A WATER FILLED PIT.
