Comments on the workings information

  • IN 1901, A SHAFT WAS SUNK 168 FEET NE OF ORE BODY. AT THE 75' AND 128' LEVELS CROSSCUTS WERE RUN SW TO THE ORE BODY. IN 1902, TWO OTHER SHAFTS WERE SUNK, AND DRIFTS WERE DRIVEN FOR A DISTANCE OF 760 FEET ALONG THE VEIN, DEVELOPING ORE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DISTANCE. AN INCLINED SHAFT WAS SUNK FARTHER WEST IN 1907. DURING 1908, A DRIFT ON THE 200 FOOT LEVEL WAS DRIVEN 1800 FEET IN ORE TO CONNECT WITH THE CROSSCUT FROM SHAFT 1. FROM SHAFT 3, ON THE 250 FOOT LEVEL, A CROSSCUT WAS STARTED TOWARD THE ORE BODY. WHEN MINE CLOSED 100 MEN WERE PUT OUT OF WORK. 1985 ONE LARGE SHAFT VISABLE 40' IN DIAMETER BY 40' DEEP. TIMBER SUPPORTS STILL AT BOTTOM. NO ORE FOUND BUT MOUNDS OF TAILING SURROUNDING SHAFT.

Comments on development

  • MINE CLOSED 1916 BECAUSE OF NO MARKET FOR ORE AND WAS ALLOWED TO FILL WITH WATER; IN 1920 STORED ORE IN STOCKPILE WAS SOLD AS UMBER AFTER TREATMENT. IN 1923 300 TONS A DAY WERE SHIPPED FROM STOCKPILE. IN 1944 EXPLORATION DRILLING WAS CONDUCTED TO SEE IF MINE SHOULD BE REOPENED BUT WAS NOT
