Comments on the workings information

  • ORIGINAL SHAFTS YIELDED 6700 TONS. 1877 NINE TRAIL PITS WERE DUG SW OF OLD MINE; IN ADDITION 2 SHAFTS, 35 FEET APART AND ABOUT 350 FEET SW OF OLD MINE WERE SUNK ONE REACHING 115 FEET AND THE SECOND REACHING 50 FEET. 1680 TONS WERE RAISED BY 1880. OTHER VEINS WERE EXPLORED BY PITS AND SHAFTS NORTH AND EAST OF MAIN WORKINGS. THE MINE HAD A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF WATER IN IT AND A SMALL ENGINE WAS USED TO PUMP WATER AND TO RAISE ORE. DUE TO THE WATER AND BECAUSE OF A SCARCITY OF WORKERS THE MINE CLOSED. DURING THE 1940'S ONLY A SMALL, LEAN DUMP WAS FOUND AND THE OWNER OF THE PROPERTY SAID HE HAD FILLED 4 SHAFTS WITH STONE FROM OTHER DUMPS, COVERED THEM WITH SOIL FOR SAFETY AND TO MAKE FARM LAND. 1985 NUMEROUS DEPRESSIONS ARE EVIDENT ALONG WITH SOME LEAN ORE
