Comments on the workings information

  • IN 1890 ONE SHAFT PUT IN AN OLD PROSPECT HOLE. SHAFT WAS 50 FEET DEEP WITH THE LENGTH OF THE MINE REACHING 100 FEET. IN 1891 WORKINGS CONSISTED OF TWO SHAFTS, ONE 100 FEET DEEP, ANOTHER 80 FEET DEEP, CONNECTED BY A DRIFT 140 FEET LONG. 4 MEN WERE EMPLOYED. THE ORE WAS CARTED TO PEAPACK AND SHIPPED TO THE CARBON IRON AND PIPE COMPANY'S WORKS AT PARRYVILLE, PA. IN 1985 APPEARS TO BE 5 SHAFTS BUT COULD BE CAVED IN DRIFT. LARGEST SHAFT IS 20 FT IN DIAMETER, 20 FT DEEP AND APPEARS TO BE CAVED IN. SHAFTS FORM A STRAIGHT ROW ON TOP OF THE RIDGE. SMALL ORE PILES NORTH OF MAIN SHAFT HAVE BEEN SEPERATED BY PURITY.

Comments on development

  • OLD PROSPECT HOLE REOPENED SUMMER, 1890 ON LAND OF JOHN AUBLE OPERATED BY W. SLUP. IN 1891 WAS OPERATED BY PEAPACK MINING COMPANY
