Comments on the reserve resource information

  • BEYOND THE 14 DEPOSITS HE NOTED CONTAINING 81.6 MILLION TONS OF RESOURCES, GROUT (1950) ESTIMATED THAT ABOUT 50 ADDITIONAL SMALL DEPOSITS WERE LOCATED IN COOK COUNTY WITH AN INFERRED TONNAGE OF 552,000 TONS OF TITANIFEROUS MAGNETITE. THESE DEPOSITS ARE TOO SMALL AND TOO LEAN TO BE OF COMMERCIAL INTEREST.

Comments on development

  • WINCHELL (1897) REPORTED THAT THE TITANIFEROUS IRON ORES OF THE DULUTH COMPLEX WERE DISCOVERED ABOUT 1867, ABOUT THE SAME TIME AS THE MESABI RANGE IRON ORES.
