  • IRON ORES IN THE GOGEBIC RANGE OCCUR IN THE MIDDLE PRECAMBRIAN IRONWOOD IRON-FORMATION WHICH IS CORRELATED TO THE BIWABIK FORMATION OF THE MESABI RANGE. THE IRONWOOD FORMATION IS FROM 600 TO 800 FT THICK WITH A SHARP CONTACT WITH THE PALMS FORMATION AND A GRADATIONAL CONTACT WITH THE TYLER FORMATION. THE IRONWOOD IRON-FORMATION DIPS FROM 50 TO 65 DEGREES TO THE NORTH AND IS COMMONLY FROM 1,000 TO 1,500 FT WIDE.

  • MARSDEN ESTIMATES THAT THE TOTAL TACONITE RESERVES FOR THE GOBEBIC RANGE ARE 3,711,000,000 TONNES FOR ALL GRADES AND PROBABILITY RATINGS. ROUGHLY 2,780,000,000 TONNES OF CRUDE ORE HAVING 32.66 RECOVERY WEIGHT ARE IN ASHLAND, AND 931,000,000 TONNES OF CRUDE ORE HAVING A 30.4 WEIGHT RECOVERY ARE IN IRON COUNTY.
