  • LOCATION IS AMONG THE EXPLORATION DRILL HOLES.

Commodities

Commodity Importance
Copper Primary
Nickel Critical Primary

Comments on the commodity information

  • CHALCOPYRITE AND CUBANITE ARE THE MAIN COPPER MINERALS; PENTLANDITE IS THE DOMINANT NICKEL MINERAL. CHALCOPYRITE OCCURS AS THIN PATCHES AND VEINLETS IN FRACTURES AND CLEAVAGE PLANES MORE OFTEN THAN OTHER SULFIDES. PENTLANDITE IS ALWAYS FOUND AS SUBROUNDED GRAINS IN CONTACT WITH PYRRHOTITE AND RARELY WITH CHALCOPYRITE.

Controls for ore emplacement

  • No Structural Control Of Mineralization Was Recognized By Bakheit (1981). There Is No Progressive Mineralization With Depth.

Comments on the geologic information

  • MOST ROCKS IN THE DEPOSITS ARE GABBROIC OR TROCTOLITIC WITH A FEW LENSES OR DIKES OF PICRITE, PYROXENITE, ANORTHOSITE, OR BASALT. GEOPHYSICAL STUDIES HAVE SHOWN THAT THE MELLEN COMPLEX IN NORTHERN WISCONSIN DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE DULUTH COMPLEX ACROSS LAKE SUPERIOR BASIN TO FORM A LOPOLITH.
